Venugopalaswamy temple at Surapura is an ancient temple maintained well. It is on the top of a hillock in the middle of the town. Sri Vivekanada Sevashrama volunteers visited this temple during the mega free IOL eye camp conducted on 20th July 2012. It was at walkable distance from the hospital Quarters where we stayed. Surapura is like a hill station with beautiful surroundings.

Public Transport at Surapura

Image
This is the state of affairs of available transport at Surapura, taluk town in Yadgir district of Karnataka. They have space for ten more. The driver and conductor never say no to any who want to board the geep, the available mode of transport. Is it safe to ride on the top of the vehicle. Do you want to board this vehicle? What are the police doing? Can the driver see the road? Should this type of transport allowed on the roads for people to travel? Lack of buses at convenient timings results in this chaotic mode of travel.

Cataract surgery camps are conducted regularly over the years at this small PHC. We have installed A/C for OT and OT furniture to make it fit for an Eye surgery center Over these years we have conducted nearly 900 free IOL cataract surgeries. Normally there will be quarterly camps. conducting 50 surgeries per camp. There is a temple of Channa Someshwara in front of PHC. It is a small PHC and the space is limited. We have been able to manage crowds upto 75 surgeries. Here Sevashrama feeds the patients and volunteers during the camp. some photos at meals & brealfast time

The camp was well attended and we could conduct 243 Free IOL surgeries to the poor people of the area. In 2011 we wanted to conducted the camp but had to cancel it for the test reports were positive and showed growth in OT. Now enough precaution was taken to conduct swab tests well before time  The activities went on smoothly without any hitches.
